New York has just been eliminated from the Olympic bidding.
I hate to lose as much as anyone, but hosting the Olympics here, especially after the defeat of the West Side stadium, would have been a disaster.
I don't like the Olympics anyway. I never saw it as a "bringing together of peoples" as it is touted, but rather a chance for our guys to beat the hell out of your guys, except when your judges are screwing our guys. I see the Olympics as a festering pit of hatred, resentment, cheating, drug use and greed, packaged around a bunch of sports I wouldn't walk to the end of the block to watch.
So now I'll keep an eye on the rest of the selection process, to see from which city the Games will be broadcast while I'm watching something else on TV.
6:42 a.m.: Madrid out, too (Moscow went before NY)--so London and Paris are left. TV already calling this a major defeat for Bloomberg, trying to spin this as bad for his re-election campaign. Of course, Hillary was actually at the voting site trying to sway the selectors, but I doubt you'll see any stories about how Hillary lacks international clout.
6:45 a.m.: They say they have a winner, but they won't announce until 7:30. The odds say it's Paris, but wouldn't it be funny if once it got to one-on-one the Parisians surrendered quickly? Of course, the opposition is London, not Berlin....
6:51 a.m.: My wife wants to know if I care so little about the Olympics, why am I posting on it? Cause I was working on a post about why Bush should pick a conservative Justice, this nonsense came on the air, I don't have to leave the house until 9 today (breakfast meeting in town) instead of my usual 7 departure time, it gives me a chance to bash both Paris and Hillary, and I have a post 3/4's ready for tomorrow!
7:48 a.m.: It's London!!!! Oooooh, I can't wait. I figure there will be at least another 400 CSI and Law & Order reruns to watch by 2012!!
